For those who love their grandchildren: WAYS TO REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT : FROM HSIT (High Speed IT Network Services LLC.)

For those who love their grandchildren. These are the steps you could follow to reduce Carbon Footprint and save your future.

All Green!!

RECYCLING

Recycling our waste is a good way of reducing our carbon footprint. Most packaging can be recycled and used again. This means that new card and paper is not used, reducing pollution from factories making the packaging. We can recycle glass and metal containers such as drinking bottles.
We can recycle rainwater by collecting it on our roofs and using it for washing clothes, showers, baths and for flushing toilets.

TRANSPORTATION

Cars, and planes are responsible for much of the carbon we ‘pump’ into the atmosphere and environment. If we reduce the journeys we make by cars and planes our carbon footprint will also be reduced. This is also the case if we take public transport (Electric trains for example)rather than using our private cars. Cycling and walking is also a healthy option for ourselves and the environment. We could also use environmentally friendly fuels such as hydrogen in our cars.

BIO FUELS

Bio fuels are fuels that are produced by growing crops that can be processes to give us fuel that is more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels. Sugar cane is used to produce ethanol which can be used to power cars and yet is less polluting than petrol or diesel. Animal waste can be used to produce methane gas which can be used to power vehicles. There are many more bio fuels which are alternatives to oil, petrol and diesel. Using these fuels in place of fossil fuels would help reduce our carbon footprint.

HOME GROWN FOOD

Most large supermarkets import cheap food from abroad. Supermarkets are stacked with foods that could easily be grown in this country and locally. Often food is transported from countries far away. In some cases it has been transported thousands of miles to the supermarket. If home grown food was purchased by the supermarkets this would dramatically reduce the amount of fuel used and consequently the amount of pollution created.

We are spoiled by the tricky, cunning and business motivated choices in the supermarkets. If we consumed locally produced seasonal foods instead of out of season foods - again this would reduce our carbon content.

REDUCE PLASTIC PACKAGING

Most products are ‘over’ packaged when we buy them in the shops. Packaging is manufactured in factories that consume electricity and use other forms of power, usually produced through the burning of fossil fuels. If we reduce the amount of packaging this will help reduce our carbon footprint. If we use recycled materials  for packaging this would also be helpful. Plastics are an oil based product. Recycling waste plastic will help further.

ENERGY CONSERVATION

We should all ensure that our homes are insulated against the cold and so require less energy to keep them warm. Insulated water tanks, loft insulation, installing double glazing, energy efficient boilers - all reduce our carbon footprint. Using energy saving bulbs reduces the amount of electricity we use in our homes.

GREEN ENERGY

It is now possible to purchase electricity from a green supplier. This is electricity produced with minimum impact on the environment mainly through wind turbines, solar panels and water power. Although more expensive, the consumer knows that his/her carbon footprint has been reduced.
Some consumers purchase their own wind turbine or solar panels, reducing their reliance on the national grid.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY HOMES FROM HSIT

Modern building techniques from HSIT enable you to build energy efficient homes. This means more than just increasing the insulation inside the home. Environmentally friendly houses can be constructed from sustainable materials including natural woods. This type of home takes full advantage of materials such as timber frames, wool insulation and straw bale walls. Solar thermal hot water heating systems on the roof and photovoltaic panels for generating electricity can also be included.
Automated air conditioning solutions from HSIT reduces more than 33% o your energy consumptions. Moreover this the automated sensor controlled lighting system and the access control systems further reduces the carbon emission and saves energy.
Other features of an environmentally friendly house are:
Wood fired central heating systems are becoming more popular as gas and electricity prices rise. Rainwater harvesting for flushing the WC and water collection from sinks and bath for watering the garden. Large amounts of glazing to allow lots of daylight. Heat recovery systems for space heating. All these feature reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and reduce our carbon footprint.

PLANTING TREES

Planting trees is another way of reducing carbon in the atmosphere. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Trees are sometimes referred to as carbon sinks as they absorb carbon from the atmosphere cleaning our air.
